We are the students who feed the campus cats, get the injured ones treated, find
them homes, and argue — loudly, on the road if necessary — that how a community
treats its animals is a public health question.
A student club that decided the campus cats were somebody's responsibility.
ABU Cats Club was formed to answer a set of problems nobody had claimed:
hunger, untreated injuries, illness, abandonment, traps set by hunters,
uncontrolled breeding, and a general assumption that none of it mattered.
We care for the cats directly — and we spend just as much effort persuading
everyone else to do the same, through teaching, campaigns and research.
To promote responsible care, compassion and welfare for cats within Ahmadu Bello
University and the wider community through rescue, rehabilitation, adoption,
veterinary care, education, advocacy, research and partnerships.
Our vision
To inspire communities to adopt compassionate, responsible and sustainable
approaches to the welfare and humane management of stray and community animals —
with ABU Cats Club as a model for community-led animal welfare and One Health.

An adult calico with no interest in being carried and a great deal of interest in being fed. Best suited to someone who wants company rather than a lap cat.
Most of these are not up for adoption — they already live here, and we feed,
treat and neuter them where they are. A dot marks the ones looking for a home.
For one week in August the club took the argument out of the lecture hall and onto the road — a march, a seminar, a food drive and a social night, under one line: protect, care, coexist.
